The oldest habit I have, and where my visual instincts for games were formed: colour, light and composition, long before any of it was a shader.

A keyboard I built
Designed the layout, soldered the board by hand, then wrote and flashed its firmware. The hardware and the software were both mine.

Cutting, stitching and finishing by hand. Same discipline as shipping a shader: decide the constraints early, and accept that the material has opinions.
